Dry weather ahead for Valley

The Kashmir valley witnessed a sunny day today even as the state Meteorological Department said the dry weather would continue in the region over the next week.
Dry weather ahead for ValleyIn Srinagar, the sky remained clear during the day and the night witnessed a low of -3.8°C, down from 1.7°C, the officials said.
“The sky will remain clear for the next 24 hours and the minimum and maximum temperatures will be around -3°C and 10°C, respectively,” an official of the weather department said.
The minimum temperature remained below the freezing point in the towns of Qazigund, Kokernag and Kupwara as well.
Gulmarg remained the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir with a low of -9.2°C overnight. The resort had recorded a low of -8.2°C the previous night.
In South Kashmir’s Qazigund and Pahalgam, the night temperature was recorded at -2.6°C and -3°C, respectively.
In the frontier region of Leh, the weather remained dry and the officials of the Met Department said the
maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 6°C and -8 °C, respectively, tomorrow.
A day ago, light snowfall was experienced in Pahalgam, breaking the week-long dry spell.
The Valley is currently under the grip of winter’s harshest phase which lasts for 40 days and is known as ‘Chilai Kalaan’. During this time, the weather mostly remains below freezing point and spells of snow are expected.
