The police have booked unidentified students of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) for allegedly raising anti-India and pro-azadi slogans on the campus.
The action came after Kashmiri students, especially from the College of Engineering and Technology, boycotted their classes reportedly for three days after the killing of former student-turned-militant Eisa Fazili of the BTech (sixth semester) along with two others by security forces on Monday.
“Taking a serious note of the incident, the police have booked unidentified students of the BGSBU who were involved in the incident. The matter has also been taken up with the Vice Chancellor who has assured an internal inquiry and stringent action against the students,” said Yougal Manhas, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
Immediately after Eisa’s disappearance from the BGSBU came to light, the police had conducted a search operation in his hostel room but nothing incriminating was recovered.
Later, when the family came to know that Eisa had joined militancy, his father had through the social media appealed to his son to return but without any response.
After the news of Eisa’s killing reached the BGSBU on Monday, Kashmiri students boycotted their classes. Around midnight, all Kashmiri students, including girls, came out of their hostels and raised anti-India and reportedly pro-azadi slogans.
“The police have started investigation to identify the students and action under law will be taken,” said the SSP.
The police have registered a case under Sections 153-A (doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 124-A (sedition) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy), RPC, against unidentified students.
