7-day Ladakh Festival begins

With an aim to extend the tourism season in Ladakh, Secretary for Tourism Farooq Ahmad Shah inaugurated the Ladakh Festival in Leh today.

7-day Ladakh Festival beginsShah said tourists would enjoy grand celebrations during the next seven days. He said holding the Ladakh Festival in September was initially aimed at stretching the tourist season.

“Now, the objective is achieved with the presence of a large number of tourists here. This success story is being replicated in other parts of the state to boost tourism,” he added.

Terming J&K as the best tourist destination in the country, Shah said people of all three regions of the state had to play their role in promotion of tourism and preservation of their culture, traditions and heritage.

He said the Tourism Department was focusing on creation of improved infrastructure in all regions and regulating the tourism trades.

Leh Deputy Commissioner Prasanna Ramaswamy, in his welcome address, said the Ladakh Festival was being organised to showcase the rich culture of this region and provide a platform for cultural exchange.
