The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday set pre-conditions for talks with the Hurriyat Conference, saying its joint resistance leadership (JRL) should publicly admit that J&Kwas an undisputed part of India and that Pakistan was in illegal occupation of a part of the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, BJP spokesperson Sunil Sethi said the offer of the Hurriyat for talks was a farce as fight against militancy in Kashmir was at the decisive stage.
“It is after many sacrifices by the armed forces and citizens that we have reached at the threshold of finishing militancy in the state once for all. Such opportunity can’t be wasted on some motivated offers,” said Sethi.
A day earlier in Kashmir, BJP in charge Avinash Rai Khanna had publicly announced that doors were open for talks if the Hurriyat believed in the Constitution.
Governor Satya Pal Malik had on June 22 said the Hurriyat leaders were ready for dialogue with the Centre while JRL chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq responded that they would come forward in case “meaningful” talks were initiated by New Delhi.
