Today PM Modi to kick off BJP’s election campaign from Jammu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s star campaigner, is scheduled to launch the party’s Lok Sabha election campaign in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Officials said Modi is scheduled to arrive in Jammu by an Indian Air Force special aircraft at around 4.30pm and then take a chopper to Doomi-Akhnoor, some 25 kilometers from here, to address a campaign rally.

“Prime Minister is likely to reach the rally venue at around 5pm and after the 55-minute public address and meetings with senior party functionaries, he is scheduled to return to New Delhi thereafter,” an official said.

Modi’s Jammu visit will be his last election function of the day after the scheduled campaign rallies in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and Rudrapur in Uttarakhand.

The BJP has fielded sitting MPs Jugal Kishore Sharma and Jitendra Singh, who are contesting from Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda-Kathua parliamentary constituencies respectively.

The seats are due for polling in the first two phases.
