Anwar Khan, BJP leader escapes militant attack in Pulwama; PSO injured

A BJP leader escaped a militant attack in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, but his personal security officer (PSO) was injured in the incident, the police said. Militants fired upon Anwar Khan, a BJP leader, at Balhama in Pulwama district, a police official said. While Khan escaped the attack unhurt, his PSO, constable Bilal Ahmad, was injured in the incident, he added. The Power Development Department (PDD) is raising the tariff bills in the absence of a nod from State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) as it remains headless. The SERC remains completely defunct and some of the civil society members are arguing that the bills are being raised by the PDD “illegally.” They contend that the PDD has no “legal authority” to raise bills or receive payments. Even after two years, the state government has not provided any information regarding its investigation into the killings of civilians during the 2016 summer unrest.
