Authorities imposed restrictions in Srinagar on Saturday to prevent protests in the wake of a militant’s killing the previous day, police said.
“District Magistrate Srinagar has imposed restrictions under section 144 CrPc in Parimpora, Safa Kadal, M.R.Gunj, Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Maisuma and Kralkhud areas,” the police said.
All schools and colleges in the city were closed for the day. Classes at the Kashmir University were suspended.
Train services were also suspended.
On Friday, Mugees Ahmad Mir from Parimpora was killed in a gunfight between the police and militants in the outskirts of Srinagar.
According to the police, the slain militant was a member of the Al Qaeda affiliated group, Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.
The group was launched in July. Zakir Musa, a militant active in south Kashmir areas heads the outfit.
However, Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen owned the militant, saying that Mugees was the Pulwama district commander of the outfit.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik was on Saturday arrested while Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest late last night.
A spokesman of JKLF said that Malik was arrested from his residence and shifted to central jail Srinagar.
Mirwaiz, according to a spokesman of the outfit, was placed under house detention around 10 pm.
The action comes in the wake of killing of a Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TeM) militant Mugees Ahmad Mir in a shootout with police in Zakura area of Srinagar last evening.
Mir, a resident of Parimpora, has suffered bullet injury in the Zakura shootout that also left a police officer dead.
Meanwhile, restrictions have been imposed in the territorial jurisdiction of Parimpora and seven other police stations of Srinagar to prevent protests against the killing of Mir.
