World Tourism Day celebrated at Patnitop

Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh visited Patnitop and participated in the function organized by the Tourism Department regarding the celebration of World Tourism Day.

Programme was attended by MLA Chenani, Dina Nath Bhagat, MLA Ramban, Neelam Langeh DC Udhampur Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Director Tourism, Jammu, R. K. Verma, ADDC Udhampur, Arvind Sharma, SSP Udhampur. Suleman Choudhary, CEO, Patnitop Development Authority, Rakesh Sarngal, CEOs of Bhdaderwah and Kishtwar Development Authorities and other senior officers of the various department, President of various hotels and Tourist Association and large gathering.

While speaking on the occasion, Dr Nirmal Singh congratulated and appreciated the efforts of tourism Department for organizing such a good musical programme on the occasion of World Tourism Day. The Theme of the programme was one billion tourists-one billion opportunities. He said that tourism is the backbone of economic development of the State and played an important role in the progress and raising the economic standard of the people. He said that good governance is the agenda of our coalition government and our government is committed for the overall development of the state.

The Deputy Chief Minister added that the priority of our government is to developed the tourism infrastructure and make Patnitop an independent tourism destination. He directed, Director Tourism Jammu to identify all the tourist spot of the area as per their touristpotential and to make a comprehensive plan for the overall development of tourism sector. He stressed that in summer Patnitop Mela should be organized for the promotion of various cultural traditions of the area. He instructed Director Tourism to make a study team and organized international seminar for improvement and development of the tourism sector. He informed that Rs. two crore would be spent on the face-lifting of Katra city and he assured the people that very soon the tourism sector would improve a lot in next upcoming years.

Earlier, a painting competition, photography competition was also organized on the occasion and a scintillating musical programme was also presented by the local artists of Sur Sargam group.
