Srinagar, August 12: In view of August 14 (Pakistan’s Independence Day) and August 15(India’s Independence Day), Chairman of Democratic Liberation Party Hashim Qureshi has congratulated the people of both nations, who, he said, have every right to celebrate their freedom achieved with a prolonged struggle after years of slavery.
In a statement issued here today, Hashim Qureshi said the people of Kashmir were never opposed to the Independence days of both countries, but the people of Kashmir want the people of both nations to support Kashmir’s freedom struggle. “Because history is testimony to the fact that before the formation of Pakistan or the independence of India from British slavery, Jammu and Kashmir was a sovereign and independent nation, which has been occupied by both India and Pakistan by force,” he said.
The DLP leader asked people of Jammu and Kashmir that if they really want to observe any day as black day, that should be the dates of 22 October and 27 October. “Because on 22 October 1947 Pakistani raiders attacked Kashmir and forcibly occupied half of Kashmir. On October 27, 1947 Indian army entered Kashmir to forcibly occupy the rest part,” he said.
Qureshi said the undoubtedly Kashmir being a disputed region and its people not taking part in celebrations of independence of India and Pakistan, but “it never means people of Kashmir are against the freedom of people of the two nations. What we (Kashmiris) want is that we too should be given this supreme right of freedom,” he said.
He also condemned the strict police search operations and violence across the Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of August 15. The DLP chairman also expressed deep sorrow over the killing of civilian in BSF firing in Pulwama and demanded strict action against the involved BFF troopers.
