In South Kashmir’s Shopian, which is on edge at the moment, three boys were slapped with controversial public safety act (PSA) in one last fortnight. Among the trio, interestingly, one is Sarpanch.

3 Boys Slapped with PSA; Half a Dozen Detained in Last Fortnight - ShopianOne among the other two is the brother of the Hizb commander whose house was attacked with a grenade early Thursday morning.

Notably, some unidentified men lobbed a grenade on Hizb’s district commander, Waseem Ahmed Malla’s house Thursday morning, which didn’t explode and was later diffused by a police team.

Malla’s brother Saboor Ahmed Malla along with Mohammad Yusuf Padder of Hep Shermaal and Rayees Ahmed Dar (a Sarpanch) of Barbugh were slapped with PSA. The trio were arrested two weeks ago and are accused of giving shelter to the militants. But today, said the sources well-versed with development, the arrested trio were slapped with PSA.

Hizb commander Waseem Malla joined Hizb four years ago and since then his family is bearing the brunt, family sources said, “they aren’t even allowed to use a cell phone.” Recently, twelve of Malla’s relatives were picked up by the police, four of them are still in police custody, while others were released after a few days, the sources revealed.

Other than the trio, Sheeraz Ahmed of Khurampora and Danish Farooq of Phanu have been detained on similar charges—sheltering the militants—and are in police custody presently.

The local MLC Showkat Hussain Ganai alleges that at least 13 new PSA cases are in making in Shopian. “I know their file is ready,” Ganai told , “but some of them are still absconding and that is what is delaying it.”

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police Shopian, Altaf Khan refused to divulge the details about the development, saying: “Better inquire it from DC Shopian who signs these cases!”

“Yes,” confirmed DC Shopian, GM Dar, “I have signed three PSA cases in last fortnight.”
