J&K Prepares for Annual Board Exams: 93586 Students in Soft Zones

93586 students to write exams in 873 centres in J&K’s soft zone areas; Education Minister directs officers to ensure conducive atmosphere for exams


Srinagar, Feb 14:
As many as 93586 students are scheduled to write their class 12th annual regular examination on Saturday (February 15) , to be conducted by JK Board of School Education (BOSE) in soft zone areas of Jammu and Kashmir. As per the official figures, 102298 students across Jammu and Kashmir have registered for class 12th annual regular examination out of which 93586 fall in soft zone areas while 8712 students fall in hard zone areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

The J&K Board has set up 989 exam centres– 873 in soft zone areas and 116 exam centres in hard zones areas of Jammu and Kashmir for the students of class 12th. This year, the class 10th to 12th board examinations were scheduled in February month as the government restored the previous November session in schools.

The annual examination for junior classes up to 9th standard was held in November-December month of 2024 while the government announced that the annual board examination for class 10th to 12th will be scheduled from mid-February.

As per the date sheet, the exam for class 12th students in soft zone areas will commence from February 15. For class 10th, the JKBOSE has scheduled the exam of additional and optional subjects for class 10th students as well while the examination for class 11th students will commence from February 18 of this year.

In class 10th, around 114413 students will appear in the exams in soft zones areas in 1313 exam centres. Similarly, in class 11th examination as many as 109137 students will appear in exams in soft zones areas in 1004 examination centres.

Ahead of the scheduled annual Board examination, the education minister convened a high level meeting with the officers of the School Education Department (SED) and Deputy Commissioners to review the arrangements put in place for smooth conduct of the exams.

Two days ahead of the annual examination of class 10th and 12th the students, the Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Thursday directed the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and officers of the School Education Department (SED) to ensure conducive atmosphere for the students on the exam days.

The education minister while chairing the meeting officers said the students should not face any inconvenience enroute their examination centres. Besides the senior officers and officials of SED, the meeting was also attended by the Deputy Commissioners and senior Police Officers as well. The meeting stressed on proper coordination and synergy between the departments to ensure smooth conduct of the exams.

As already reported, the JKBOSE has notified the date sheet for the students of class 10th to 12th class students appearing in the exams in soft zone areas of Jammu and Kashmir. As per the date sheet, the exam for class 10th and 12th students in soft zone areas will commence from February 15 while the examination for class 11th students will commence from February 18 of this year.

As per the JKBOSE figures, as many as 3.55 lakh students will write the class 10th to 12th Annual Board examinations in soft and hard zone areas across Jammu and Kashmir this year for which the JK Board of School Education (BOSE) has designated around 3676 examination centres for the students. The JKBOSE has notified the date sheet for hard zone areas as well.

In class 10th around 132992 students– 114413 in soft zones and 18579 students in hard zones will appear in the exams in 1553 exam centres– 1313 in soft zones and 240 in hard zone areas of J&K. Similarly in class 11th examination as many as 120673 students–109137 in soft zones and 11536 in hard zones will write the exams in 1134 exam centres– 1004 in soft zones and 130 centres in hard zone areas.

Also, 102298 students– 93586 in soft zones and 8712 students in hard zone areas of Jammu and Kashmir will write the examination in 989 exam centres– 873 in soft zone areas and 116 exam centres in hard zones areas of Jammu and Kashmir. During the meeting, the Education Minister directed the officers to ensure that conducive atmosphere is provided to the students during the exam centres.

The Deputy Commissioners were asked to establish control rooms for proper monitoring of the conduct of the exams. “The students should be provided proper heating and lighting arrangement in the exam centres. The students should not face any inconvenience due to the convoy movement on roads,” the minister asked the DCs. The minister directed the officers to coordinate with the concerned quarters to ensure that admit cards of students are treated as passes during this convoy movement.

She said that magistrates and flying squads should be deployed for monitoring of the exam besides ensuring that only students and exam staff are allowed inside the exam centres.
