Amid rising number of positive cases and Covid-19 related deaths, a majority of districts in the Jammu region on Friday evening came under weekend lockdown, restricting the movement of people and operations of all non-essential establishments.
The UT administration has already imposed a six-day complete lockdown across Kashmir valley, except for Bandipora district, following a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the last three weeks.
The police personnel, assisted by para-military jawans, were deployed across different parts of the region to strictly enforce the lockdown.
Police vans were spotted announcing lockdown and asking people to adhere to the guidelines strictly.
According to the official statistics, the UT recorded over 4,000 fresh cases while 65 patients lost their battle against the deadly virus during the past one week.
According to an order issued by District Magistrate Sushma Chauhan, “There shall be a complete restriction on movement of individuals, vehicles and all activities within the entire jurisdiction of district Jammu, except the movement for emergency medical requirements, from 6 pm on all Fridays till 6 am on all Mondays”.
Similarly, District Magistrate Udhampur tweeted, “Remember Udhampurites, from 10 pm today to Monday morning there is weekend lockdown. Pls adhere to all instructions issued in public interest. No restriction/bar on any kind of Govt construction and related activities”.
Additional District Magistrate Rajouri while quoting an order of the District Magistrate also tweeted, “There shall be complete weekend Lockdown commencing from 6 pm today to 6 am Monday. All requested 2 adhere 2 d instructions issued in larger public interest. No bar on emergency/essentials services, Govt constructions, Agr. related activities (other than in red zones)”.
Similar restrictions have been enforced in other districts to stem the COVID-19 spread in the region.
