In an advertisement notice for teachers issued yesterday by the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) for district cadre posts of general, science/mathematics and Urdu teachers, the lion’s share has been given to Srinagar with 554 posts, whereas the winter capital has got none.
The JKSSB has advertised 2,154 posts of teachers under the district cadre, but not a single post has been given to Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Jammu, Poonch, Kathua, Kargil and Leh districts. After Srinagar, which is the home district of Education Minister, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s home district Anantnag has got 320 posts, followed by Baramulla (264), Pulwama (184), Budgam (137), Udhampur (120), Bandipora (115), Samba (107), Ganderbal (89), Kulgam (88), Shopian (75), Reasi (49), Kupwara (38) and Rajouri (14).
Anger is brewing among educated youth in left-out districts. Even representatives of opposition political parties have shown resentment against the discrimination.
Reacting to the advertisement, Ajaz Jan, provincial president, Youth National Conference, said, “About 10 posts for Rajouri and none for Poonch district clearly show the step-motherly treatment being given to the twin districts by the present government,” he said.
Simrandeep Singh, JKSSB chairman, wasn’t available for comment.
