In last 24 hours three more braid chopping incidents have been reported in rural areas of Jammu and Samba districts.
As per officials two cases were reported form Saba district, where both victims are of 10 year old.
The braid of Kushi daughter of Des Raj resident of Rakha village, Samba was mysteriously chopped off in late evening hour, when she went to rooftop for picking her school bag,” said an official.
“The family members came to know after Kushi screamed loudly and fell unconscious. Her mother was first to see her and raised alarm. Family members took the girl to district hospital where doctors kept her under observation for four hours and later discharged her,” officials said.
With three fresh incidents, the total number of braid chopping in Jammu reaches to ten. Two incidents were reported yesterday in villages of Bishanah and R S Pura, where both women complained that there hairs were chopped during late evening hours. Five such cases were reported earlier.
The second case was also reported from Samba where 10 year old Aarti daughter of Ashok Sambyal resident of Kali Manddi, found her braid chopped, when she was alone in the kitchen.
“Aarti was helping her mother in kitchen. Suddenly she cried, first thought came in my mind that she may met with an accident in kitchen, I rushed toward kitchen area found her laying on floor,” said Ashok Sambyal father of victim.
“That time she doned two ponytails, I noticed one pony was lying on the floor,” he said.
The third instance happened in R S Pura area of Jammu where braid of 16 year old Rekha Devi daughter of Des Raj resident of village Chakroi was found chopped.
“All my hair came in my hand when I tried to wash them in the morning, I was shocked after this and don’t remember who cut it,” said victim Rekha Devi.
The investigation agencies are facing tough time to solve abnormal type of crime.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, (SDPO) RS Pura Surinder Choudhary said police is investigation but we are clueless so far as no substance evidence was found from crime scenes.
“The matter complicated but harsh reality is hairs of women had been chopped off and villagers are in panic, which is worrying us,” he said.
“The investigation has been initiated, we are working on various theories, including outbreak of insect, which allegedly involved chopping hairs of women,” he said.
“Hair samples have been collected from the victims has been sent to forensic science laboratory to know the scientific cause of hair fall,” he informed.
