Avalanche warning issued for Kashmir & Ladakh region

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Samoon on Thursday issued a medium danger avalanche in several regions of Jammu and Kashmir. An official handout, quoting Samoon, said avalanche warning exists for snowbound areas in Qazigund, Shopian, Chowkibal-Tangdar, Taya, Ragini, Puttakhan, Zunegund, Malai, Pharkiyan, Keran Sector, Bandipora Rajdhan, Gulmarg, Neeru, Burab, Chakwali, Naugaon, Kaiyan, Radha TMG, Padam, Zebra, Patlala, Z-Gali, Macchal, Dhudi, Tsuntwarl, Drass Sector, Kargil Sector and Higher reaches of Kulgam and Anantnag in Kashmir Division. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained two persons from central Kashmir’s Budgam district who were in touch with police follower Riyaz Ahmed. The High Court today directed the government to identify and conduct screening test of only those Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers who had obtained degrees through distance mode from institutions termed as “tuck shops” by the court. The teachers having obtained their degrees through distance mode from the regularised and reputed institution have been exempt from the screening test by the court. The Power Development Department (PDD) is unable to carry out the underground cabling of power lines in the state due to shortage of funds and frequent road digging. According to officials, the underground cabling has been approved for the tourist areas of Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Patnitop.
