Former Chief Minister and National Conference working president Omar Abdullah on Wednesday asked PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to either form the government or dissolve the Assembly and get ready for a fresh election.
“They are making double talk. They say their Agenda of Alliance is not good and we will change it, and the next day they say the Agenda is sacred and we will carry it forward. If it is sacred, for God’s sake form the government, Mehboobaji,” Omar said while addressing a meeting of party workers at Beerwah in central Kashmir.
Omar, who represents the Beerwah constituency in the state Assembly, said the PDP was terrified of a new election because it knows the National Conference will win and form the government on its own.
“If your father could not reach out to the people, you can do so. But if you don’t want to form the government then for God’s sake dissolve this Assembly and give the people a chance to decide,” Omar said, throwing a challenge to Mehbooba.
The NC leader said the PDP-BJP coalition government had proven to be a “complete failure” within 10 months and people were finding Governor’s rule in the state “more responsive and effective”. “It is surprising that people find the administration more responsive and effective under Governor’s rule than it was under the rule of the PDP-BJP government,” Omar said.
He said it was a “tragic indictment” of the PDP-BJP government and an indication of its failure during the 10 months of its governance.
Governor’s rule was imposed in the state following the death of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed earlier this month as Mehbooba remained reluctant to take oath as the next head of the government.
