BJP aiming to draw 30,000 participants at Srinagar rallyTop BJP leaders will be camping in Srinagar city in the coming days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled public rally on November 7. The BJP is aiming to draw 30,000 people to the rally, which will be the Prime Minister’s first such public meeting in the Valley after the PDP and the BJP formed the coalition government in the state.

“The venue (Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium) has a capacity of 25,000 to 30,000 participants and we are expecting as many people. Top party leaders will be coming here to ensure the success of the rally,” BJP spokesman Khalid Jehangir told .

Even as Modi’s Kashmir rally held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium during the campaigning for the Assembly elections in December last year had failed to attract large crowds, the BJP this time is banking on the support of its allies Peoples Democratic Party and Peoples Conference to ensure a successful rally.

Despite the hectic campaigning and fielding 34 candidates in the Valley, the BJP had failed to win any seat in the Assembly elections. The BJP’s claims that it has enrolled over 3.3 lakh members in the Valley will be tested during the November 7 rally.

While BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav had chaired a core group meeting here yesterday, Jehangir said he along with other central leaders will be holding more meetings in the coming days in view of Modi’s rally.

Jehangir said Madhav will be returning to Srinagar on Wednesday or Friday to chair another party meet while MoS in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh will take stock of arrangements for the rally on November 5.

BJP media in charge Altaf Thakur said the party’s chief whip in the Rajya Sabha and in charge of the J&K affairs, Avinash Rai Khanna, too will be coming here in view of the rally. Thakur said the party top brass was going all out to ensure the maximum participation of the public.
