‘Funds must be allocated as per population density’
The legislators are misusing Constituency Development Funds (CDF), Finance Minister, Haseeb Drabu said here Wednesday.
Drabu said the present dispensation inherited huge liability of Rs 10000 crore from the previous NC-Congress government led by Omar Abdullah on the government.
Responding to a private bill moved by MLC, G N Monga regarding enhancement of CDF from Rs 1.5 crores to 3 crores, Drabu said the funds meant for development of people were used for construction of houses and other properties. He said the funds were misused and spent in fencing of graveyards and some useless works.
The finance minister said CDFs should be allocated according to population density and area of the constituencies. “Some constituencies are big in size and some have less population but CDF is same for all,” he said stressing on the need to grant CDFs according to population of the area.
The House agreed to form a committee to look into the issue.
The Minister informed the House that he will bring a resolution for the same in the next budget session.
