In a bid to pacify the tensions, likely to emerge during Eid-ul Azha due to the high order on beef ban, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday appealed people not to perform any such act that could hurt the religious sentiments of other communities of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Allah has declared meat of bovine animals’ halal for us. Neither can anyone declare it a forbidden entity nor can stop us from consuming it. At a time when on the eve of Eid- ul- Azha, we uphold the sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S), we must not indulge in any such activity that could hurt the religious sentiments of any community,” Geelani said in a statement to KNS.
In his appeal to the people of the state, the senior separatist leader said on eve of Eid- ul- Azha, the Muslims must uphold the religious sanctity and not undermine the aspirations and sentiments of other religious communities.
Expressing concern over the reports of simmering tensions between Hindus and Muslims in Jammu region after the court order on beef ban, Geealni said some fanatic elements are hell bent to fan the communal fires so that a stir is caused within Jammu and Kashmir. “We appeal Hindu brothers not to fall prey to the criminal agenda of RSS and at all costs should not allow anyone to cause any religious divide,” Geelani said, adding that Muslims do not sacrifice bovine animals in vengeance to any community.
“If any entity is halal in Hindu religion, we cannot declare it a forbidden one. In a similar manner, rendering sacrifices of animals is a religious obligation for the Muslims. Our fight is between the oppressor and the oppressed. There are some elements which are giving it the communal color so that the attention from the real cause is diverted. We must keep a close vigil over such nefarious plans and should not indulge in any act that could give the ongoing resistance movement a communal color,” Geelani said.
Geelani appealed the freedom loving people of the state not to hurt the sentiments of any religious community and the sacred exercise of sacrifice should be performed in such a way that it must not aggrieve or hurt others.
