‘I have right to hoist flag on my own soil’
Police Monday registered an FIR against the leading woman’s face of Kashmir’s Islamist movement Syeda Aasiya Andrabi under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and according to Police she could be jailed for up to seven years, if found guilty.
Chief of radical women’s outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Asiya Andrabi is accused of hoisting Pakistani flag along with her activists on the eve of Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14 Friday.
“A case vide FIR number 84/2015 under Section 13 of Unlawful Activities Act has been registered against Andrabi,” a police official told CNS. Aasiya Andrabi was booked in March this year as well for hoisting Pakistani flag in Srinagar on Pakistan Day.
“Investigation is going on. We have collected the Pak flag hoisting video that went viral and have watched it keenly. If need arises, more sections will be invoked against Andrabe,” said the police official.
Pertinently, Andrabi and burqa-clad activists of her radical group, Dukhtaran-e-Millat, meaning Daughters of Faith organized a function in Srinagar wherein they hoist Pakistani flags and sang the Pakistani national anthem on Pakistan’s Independence Day. According to Andrabi she has already been facing a number of FIR’s in different police station and these FIR’s can’t break her resolve.
“For the past 35 years, I have been celebrating August 14 and March 23 (Pakistan’s independence and republic days). There was nothing new in what I did recently. If it’s a crime, I will do it repeatedly until the Kashmir dispute is resolved. I hoisted the Pakistani flag on disputed territory (Kashmir) and not on Indian land,” Andrabi told CNS.
