BJP MLAs prefer to stay in Valley, Ignoring party diktat

Leadership told them to rush to Jammu to address power woes

Ignoring party diktat, BJP MLAs prefer to stay in ValleyNotwithstanding strict directives given by the BJP leadership to its legislators to reach out to people in Jammu province that is reeling under a power crisis, a majority of the party ministers and legislators preferred to attend the ongoing Budget session of the legislature and enjoy the pleasant weather of the Kashmir valley.
The BJP leadership on Tuesday had directed all its elected representatives to immediately rush to their respective constituencies to address the problems of the common man. Sources said the leadership took this step after it received a disturbing feedback about the performance of its legislators from workers at the grassroots level.
Directions to BJP ministers and legislators were given by state general secretary of the party Narinder Singh after a meeting of senior party leaders was held on Tuesday to review the power crisis in Jammu province.
“All party ministers and legislators have been asked to reach their respective constituencies immediately to address the grievances of the general public,” Singh confirmed to Kashmir Post on Tuesday while admitting that miseries of the common man were compounding due to the severe water shortage and unscheduled power cuts. “The system will not be improved within a day or two but the party is of the view that the elected representatives should be in their respective constituencies at this time when their voters are facing hardship during the peak of summer”, he added.
As Singh is a hardcore RSS man who has been deputed by the party to monitor the performance of ministers and legislators, sources said it was believed that he had given the directions after getting the feedback from the Sangh Parivar leadership. A message had gone down the line that residents of the Jammu region, who voted en masse for the BJP in the 2014 assembly elections, were struggling for the basic amenities during the scorching heat while their representatives were enjoying the cool weather of the Kashmir valley.
Highly placed sources in the BJP said a majority of the ministers and legislators had given the excuse of the ongoing Budget session to stay in the Valley. While the Jammu region was facing unprecedented power crisis, the party ministers were not available to address the grievances of people, the sources added.
The entire Jammu region is witnessing protests against the breakdown of power and water supply system. Even Jammu city, which is considered the citadel of the saffron party, saw massive protests against power cuts and scarcity of potable water.
