Govt to develop Srinagar cricket stadium as world-class facilityMinister for Youth Services and Sports Imran Raza Ansari today said the Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here would be developed as a world-class sports facility.

Ansari also said Rs 200 crore would soon be released by the Union Sports Ministry.

The minister was addressing the inaugural function of the Super 16 Iqbal Khumanie (R A) Memorial Invitational T-20 Tournament at the Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium.

The tournament, organised by the J&K Cricket Association (JKCA), will witness 64 teams from Srinagar city vie for the trophy.

Ansari said Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed was keen on developing sports, including cricket, in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the government as an immediate measure had released Rs 6 crore to rebuild the sports infrastructure hit by 2014 floods.

The minister further said the BCCI had been gracious enough to provide funds for rebuilding the sports infrastructure in the state.

“Our ministry is working closely with the Union Ministry of Sports for release of funds,” Ansari said, adding that Rs 200 crore would be released very soon.

He said the amount would be utilised for creation of new sports infrastructure and renovation of flood affected infrastructure.
