Cold wave intensifies in Kashmir as Chillai Kalan knocks on door

Ahead of the 40-day long extreme cold period in Kashmir, popularly known as ‘Chillai Kalan’ in Kashmir, Leh and Kargil remained the coldest regions of the state at minus 12 degree Celsius on Monday.This year, Chillai Kalan will begin on December 21 and will end on January 31. Snow intensifies cold wave in Valley

The Kashmir valley received a fresh spell of snow today while the cold wave tightened its grip ahead of ‘Chillai Kalan’ — the harshest 40-day winter period that begins December 21. An official of the Meteorological Department said Srinagar city recorded 0.2 mm of rainfall/snowfall today. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 5.8°C and a minimum temperature of minus 0.8°C. 6 Persons injured during militant attack on security convoy in Anantnag

Militants attacked a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force or the CRPF in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir today, injuring six security personnel.
