Leh council to seek Rs350 cr for rebuilding flood-hit infra

The newly-constituted Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, in consultation with the district administration has decided to submit a detailed proposal of Rs 350 crore to the state government for rebuilding the infrastructure damaged in the floods in August this year. The proposal also comprises the provision of compensating the affected families which lost their loved ones, if any, in the floods. The Sonamarg-Zojila stretch of the strategic Srinagar-Leh highway will remain open till November 23 to clear all stranded vehicles. The road, which is the only surface link connecting Ladakh with the rest of the state through Kashmir, remains closed to traffic during winter due to accumulation of snow on the Sonamarg-Zojila stretch. The Traffic Police today issued a new schedule for the commuters in view of the bad condition of the Sonamarg-Drass road around the Zojila axis. Zojila Pass reopens for traffic; 800 stranded vehicles move towards Sonamarg

After four days of closure, Srinagar-Leh Highway today reopened for vehicular traffic. The road was closed on 5th November after heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass.
