Earthquake on Monday brought summer capital Srinagar to a standstill as it paralyzed vehicular movement, crippled mobile phones, and stranded hordes of commuters and trapped scores of people in their respective places. Massive anti-police protests hit Habba Kadal

Massive protests broke out in Habba Kadal area of Srinagar, on Saturday against the detention of youth, reports said. The protesters also alleged that police and forces damaged property during raids. The protesters told reporters that the troops had detained several youth from the locality, last night. “They also smashed windowpanes of several houses and vehicles,” they added. Meanwhile, authorities have deployed heavy contingent of police and forces to “maintain law and order.”

Protests erupted outside Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid, in Nowhatta, after Friday prayers. Amidst pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, protesters pelted stones at the police.
