Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said “far too many antibiotics are needlessly prescribed in Kashmir. “Doctors write antibiotics to patients who do not need them,” said DAK president Dr Nisarul Hassan. Stop use of antibiotics 3 days prior to market supply, DFCO advisory to poultry dealers

Amid reports about overuse of antibiotics in poultry chicken, the Drugs and Food Control Organization (DFCO) on Tuesday issued an advisory on use of antibiotics in poultry birds. “The poultry farm dealers shall stop use of antibiotics in poultry birds 72 hours (3 days) prior supplying to market,” said the advisory. A woman died of swine flu last month leaving behind an eight-month-old baby. She was taken to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, on the evening of February 16, for swine flu treatment. Scientists have claimed to have detected anti-cancer properties in three traditional varieties of rice found in Chhattisgarh. A research has concluded that three medicinal varieties of rice – Gathwan, Maharaji and Laicha – have the ability to fight cancer, said scientist Deepak Sharma.
