Civilian killings in Shopian of South Kashmir rocked the J&K Assembly here on Monday. Opposition parties moved an adjournment motion and pressed for adjournment of the House business. They created uproar and raised slogans. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti intervened and urged Speaker Kavinder Gupta to allow discussion in the House. Later, the Speaker allowed the discussion. Two civilians killed in army firing in Shopian, JRL calls shutdown tomorrow against killings

Two civilians were killed and nine others injured after army opened fire on protesters in Ganowpora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said her government was considering amnesty to second-time stone-pelters in the Kashmir Valley. The Chief Minister, replying to a question in the upper house of the Assembly, said: “The government is reviewing the cases of second-time offenders involved in stone-pelting protests.” The government had earlier ordered withdrawal of cases against those who stoned security forces for the first time. Four policemen were killed in a blast in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Munir Khan said that four policemen were killed in the IED blast.
