Despite threats from terrorists, about 1,500 candidates in Jammu and Kashmir have filed their nominations for the first phase of urban local body elections scheduled for October 8. The elections are to be held in four phases. Nominations for the first phase closed on Tuesday. A total of 422 municipal wards will go to the polls on October 8. Three policemen were abducted and killed while a relative of one of the slain cops was set free after abduction in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on early Friday. Resignation videos emerge across Kashmir after three cops where kidnaped and killed

Shortly after the bodies of three policemen killed by militants were found in south Kashmir’s Shopian today, several videos messages emerged on social media that purportedly show special police officers announcing their decision to resign. A senior Kashmir police officer said they are yet to authenticate the claims being made in the video messages. At least six such messages have emerged and are being circulated widely. Militants abducted three policemen and the brother of a cop in Shopian district of south Kashmir last night. An official said that the militants abducted three Special Police Officers (SPOs) and a civilian during raids in two villages of the district. Five militants belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizb ul Mujahideen and a civilian were killed in a gunfight and clashes in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday. Eight dead several passengers missing as mini bus skidded in Kishtwar

At least eight passengers died and several others went missing in a road accident in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Reports said that a minibus (registration number JK17 0662) skidded off the road and rolled down into Chenab river at Thakrie in Kishtwar district around 9:55 am. An official said that eight bodies have been recovered so far during the search operation launched by the Jammu and Kashmir Police along with the locals.
