Authorities on Tuesday sealed commercial hub of Lal Chowk in Srinagar city to prevent a march called by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against the killing spree. Last evening, the police had issued an advisory, asking commuters to use an alternate route as “the stretch of road from Amira Kadal to Regal Chowk will be blocked for traffic”. Gunfight broke out between militants and the government forces in Fateh Kadal area of Downtown Srinagar early Wednesday. Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including PhD scholar-turned-terrorist Manan Bashir Wani, were killed Thursday during an encounter with security forces at Handwara in frontier district of north Kashmir, officials said. Twenty people are feared killed and several injured, some of them seriously after a minibus which was allegedly overloaded plunged into a deep gorge in Ramban district on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Saturday morning, police said. Two National Conference (NC) workers were shot dead and another injured after unknown gunmen fired at them in Habba Kadal area of Srinagar on Friday. SSP Srinagar Imtiyaz Ismail confirmed the deaths of two NC workers in the firing incident. Reports said that unknown gunmen fired at three NC workers in Karfalli Mohalla today morning, leaving them injured.
