KCCI Expresses Resentment Over Exclusion from Reconstituted Boards in J&K

Business Community Outraged: KCCI Left Out of J&K Industry Boards

The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has expressed strong resentment over its exclusion from the recently reconstituted Board of Directors of several key organizations in Jammu and Kashmir, including the J&K State Industrial Development Corporation Limited (SIDCO), J&K Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited (SICOP), Jammu and Kashmir Cements Limited (JKCL), Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation (JKHHC), Jammu and Kashmir Industries Limited (JKIL), and Jammu and Kashmir Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB).

Key Concerns Raised by KCCI:

Representational Integrity: The KCCI has registered a vehement objection against the exclusion, emphasizing that the absence of local stakeholder voices from these boards undermines their representational integrity. The Chamber highlighted that in the past, it had representation on these boards to articulate the interests of the business community effectively.

Historical Role: As the apex business chamber of Kashmir, KCCI has historically played a crucial role in advising and shaping policies related to handicrafts and industry. The exclusion of KCCI, along with other key industrial representatives, is viewed as alarming and a significant oversight by the government.

Importance of Local Representation: KCCI underscored the importance of local representation on such boards, emphasizing the need for the government to consult representatives to devise meaningful and purposeful policies. The Chamber recalled its pivotal role in advocating for the interests of the handicrafts and industrial community and noted that its absence from decision-making processes signifies a troubling disregard for the contributions made by those who understand the local business landscape.

Knowledge and Insights: The Chamber acknowledged the invaluable knowledge and real-world insights that local stakeholders bring, emphasizing that the inclusion of organizations like KCCI is vital to ensure that policies are well-informed, realistic, and tailored to the needs of the sector.

Potential Risks: Furthermore, KCCI cautioned that decisions made without considering input from stakeholders risk being ineffective or even counterproductive. The integration of grassroots perspectives is critical for developing policies that foster investment, tackle regional challenges, and stimulate meaningful growth.

Call for Immediate Restoration: KCCI has called for the immediate restoration of its representation on the Boards of Directors of industrial and handicrafts Public Sector Units (PSUs) and high-level decision-making committees. The Chamber emphasized that engagement with the business chamber apex body is key to fostering collaboration, transparency, and an environment conducive to sustainable growth. KCCI remains committed to working towards a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
