Jammu–Srinagar National Highway Closed for 5th Day | NH-44 Traffic Update August 30, 2025
By: Javid Amin | 30 Aug 2025
Why NH-44 is Closed
The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), the Valley’s only all-weather road link to the rest of India, has been shut for the fifth consecutive day following multiple landslides, mudslides, and flash floods across the Udhampur–Ramban belt.
Blocked stretches between Jakheni and Chenani (Udhampur district) remain the most critical chokepoints, as heavy rains continue to loosen soil on fragile slopes.

Authorities estimate over 2,000 vehicles are currently stuck at:

-

Restricted Movement
No movement of vehicles is allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) towards:
-

⚠️ Authorities have cautioned that both alternate routes remain vulnerable to landslides and sudden blockages.
School Closures
All government and private schools across the Jammu division remain closed till August 30, as a precaution against floods, landslides, and damaged infrastructure.
Relief Measures – Special Train
To assist stranded passengers, railways have deployed a special train from Jammu to Mhow (DADN).
Major stops include: Ludhiana, Delhi, Gwalior, and Bhopal.
