KCC&I Stands in Mourning and Calls for Action at SKICC Meeting


Srinagar 25 April 2025:
Today, a delegation from the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I), led by President Javid Ahmad Tenga, Senior Vice President Ashiq Hussain Shangloo, and Secretary General Faiz Bakshi, attended a crucial meeting at SKICC, chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The gathering brought together top government officials, civil society representatives, and business leaders from various trade and commerce organizations, collectively mourning the tragic killings of innocent civilians in Baisaran, Pahalgam, on April 22.

A Moment of Silence & Strong Condemnation

The meeting began with a solemn minute of silence, honoring the victims of the gruesome attack. KCC&I leaders, along with tourism stakeholders, expressed their strongest condemnation of the barbaric act, calling it an assault on Kashmir’s identity, culture, and cherished traditions of hospitality.

Solidarity Beyond Business

In his address, KCC&I President Javid Ahmad Tenga made it clear—this gathering was not about commercial losses but about human lives.

He emphasized that Kashmir stands in collective mourning, urging all stakeholders to prioritize justice and compassion over economic concerns at this time.

The Chamber also announced its decision to personally visit the bereaved families in the coming days, offering condolences and support to those impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy.

Recognizing Heroic Acts Amidst Horror

Tenga highlighted the bravery of local residents, particularly Syed Adil, who made the ultimate sacrifice while rushing to rescue visitors during the attack. His actions reflected the true spirit of Kashmiri hospitality and humanity, despite the violence inflicted on innocent people.

Urgent Call for Protection of Kashmiris Nationwide

Beyond mourning, KCC&I addressed the disturbing reports of harassment and threats faced by Kashmiris in other parts of India.

President Tenga urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to ensure immediate protective measures for:

  • Kashmiri students, who have faced intimidation in educational institutions.
  • Businesspersons and traders, who are being unfairly targeted.
  • Travelers, whose safety and security remain a growing concern.

The Chamber called upon the Central Government to coordinate with all states and union territories, ensuring the dignity and security of Kashmiris living outside J&K.

Government Assurances & Way Forward

Chief Minister Abdullah welcomed KCC&I’s initiative, assuring that the government would fully support their outreach efforts to the victims’ families. He acknowledged that such compassionate actions would help send a positive message across the country during this challenging time.

The meeting commenced with participants observing a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the gruesome attack.
KCC&I President Tenga, along with heads of tourism and other organisations, expressed strong condemnation of the heinous act.
In his address, President KCC&I emphasised that the purpose of their presence was not to discuss commercial concerns but to express solidarity with the victims. He stated that this moment called for collective mourning rather than focusing on business matters. Tenga informed the Chief Minister about KCC&I’s decision to personally visit the bereaved families in the coming days to offer condolences and support during this difficult time.
The Chamber stressed that the incident has profoundly affected the Kashmiri people, describing it as an assault on humanity and the region’s cherished traditions, culture, and renowned hospitality.
Javid Ahmad Tenga highlighted the courageous response of local residents who rushed to rescue visitors, particularly noting the ultimate sacrifice made by Syed Adil, who lost his life while helping others during the incident.
Addressing security concerns, the KCC&I President urged Chief Minister Abdullah to implement immediate measures to safeguard the lives and property of Kashmiri students, businesspeople, and travellers currently residing in other parts of the country. Tenga cited disturbing reports of harassment, intimidation, and threats being directed at Kashmiris and emphasised the need for serious and urgent protective actions.
Chief Minister Abdullah responded positively to KCC&I’s initiative, endorsing their decision to visit the victims’ families and assuring that the government would provide full support for this compassionate endeavour. The Chief Minister acknowledged that such actions would help send positive signals across the country during this challenging time.
