FIR Filed Over Youm-e-Quds Rally in Beerwah Budgam
Budgam, March 28, 2025 – An FIR has been registered against the organizers and participants of a Youm-e-Quds rally in Sonpah village, Beerwah, Budgam district, for allegedly creating a law-and-order situation. The rally, held on the last Friday of Ramadan, is an annual event observed as International Quds Day to express solidarity with Palestine. However, the procession reportedly disrupted public order, leading to legal action.
Details of the Incident
According to the police, a large crowd gathered under the directions of the organizers and raised objectionable slogans during the rally. The procession blocked the Sonpah-Beerwah road, causing obstructions to the smooth movement of the general public. The police took cognizance of the incident and registered a case under Sections 126 (2) and 189 (6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, at Beerwah Police Station.
Investigation Underway
The Budgam Police have initiated an investigation into the incident and assured that necessary legal action will be taken against those involved. Authorities have urged citizens to maintain peace and refrain from activities that could disturb public order.
Community and Political Reactions
The filing of the FIR has sparked mixed reactions. While some view the action as necessary to maintain law and order, others have criticized it as an infringement on the right to peaceful assembly. The rally, which traditionally aims to highlight the Palestinian cause, has drawn attention to the delicate balance between freedom of expression and public safety in the region.
