Congress Criticizes Government Over ‘False’ Peace Claims Amid Grim Situation in J&K

Jammu, March 28, 2025
– The Congress has strongly criticized the BJP-led central government for its claims of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, labeling the situation on the ground as “grim.” This comes in the wake of a series of terror incidents, including the recent encounter in Kathua that claimed the lives of four police personnel and three militants.

Congress Calls Out ‘False Narrative’

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hameed Karra condemned the government’s assertions of peace, stating that the recent events have “burst the balloon of false and misleading claims of normalcy.” He accused the Centre of ignoring early warning signals and the voices of people on the ground, leading to a deterioration of the security situation.

Karra paid tribute to the martyred policemen, lauding their bravery while expressing shock over the loss of lives. He emphasized the need for a more effective strategy to address the escalating crisis in the region.

Political Reactions

The Congress’s criticism has sparked a political debate, with opposition leaders echoing concerns about the government’s approach to security in Jammu and Kashmir. Former minister Choudhary Lal Singh highlighted vulnerabilities along the International Border, attributing the rise in infiltrations and attacks to reshuffling of security forces ahead of elections.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders, including Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, defended the government’s efforts, praising the sacrifices of security personnel and reiterating their commitment to combating terrorism.

Security Concerns Persist

The Kathua encounter, which involved a fierce gunfight between security forces and militants, has underscored the persistent threat of cross-border infiltration. Security agencies have intensified operations in the region, but the Congress argues that the Centre’s denial of ground realities is hindering effective action.
