BJP Demands SIT Probe into Ex-MLA Faqeer Muhammad Khan's Suspicious Death

BJP Alleges Murder in Ex-MLA Faqeer Muhammad Khan’s Death, Demands SIT Probe

Srinagar, March 22, 2025:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised suspicions over the death of its leader and former legislator from Gurez, Faqeer Muhammad Khan, who allegedly shot himself at his official residence in Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar, on Thursday. While the Jammu and Kashmir Police initially suggested the incident appeared to be a case of suicide, the BJP has called for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter, alleging foul play.

BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur, speaking to reporters in Kangan, expressed doubts about the circumstances surrounding Khan’s death. “He had no signs of depression and was fine. The condition in which he died is suspicious. We believe this is not a suicide but a murder,” Thakur stated. He pointed to the positioning of the rifle found between Khan’s legs as unusual and questioned who was present at the time of the incident.

The police have launched an investigation, stating that all aspects of the case are being considered. However, Thakur emphasized the need for a thorough probe, urging the authorities to form an SIT to uncover the truth. “We think this is a conspiracy, and those responsible must be identified,” he added.

Faqeer Muhammad Khan, a grassroots leader who joined the BJP in 2020, had contested the 2024 Assembly elections from Gurez but was defeated. His sudden demise has shocked the political community, with leaders across parties expressing condolences. The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly observed a two-minute silence in his memory.

The BJP’s demand for an SIT highlights the party’s concerns over the incident, as they seek clarity and justice for their late leader.
