– In a distressing incident at the Geeta Jayanti Fair in Kurukshetra, Haryana, a Kashmiri cloth vendor was targeted and attacked by miscreants, sparking widespread outrage. The assault highlights the serious issue of communal disharmony and intolerance, and has been strongly condemned by politicians across Jammu and Kashmir.

Incident Details The attack occurred during the Geeta Jayanti Fair, where a group of right-wing activists reportedly targeted the vendor, vandalizing his stall and physically assaulting him. A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the activists arguing with the vendor and throwing his merchandise onto the street. The vendor raised the matter with the police and the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB), seeking action against those involved.

Political Reactions The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference condemned the attack, with state spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar demanding swift and decisive action against the perpetrators. “This kind of violence and discrimination has no place in a civilized society and must be met with the full force of the law. We stand in solidarity with the victims and call for justice to be served,” Dar said. Apni Party (JKAP) president Altaf Bukhari described the attack as shameful and called for immediate legal action against the perpetrators.

Community Response In a silver lining to the unfortunate event, locals, reportedly from the Hindu community, intervened and rescued the vendor, showcasing a commitment to the values of coexistence and brotherhood. Authorities’ Action Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Varun Singla confirmed that a case has been registered and the matter is under investigation. “Appropriate action will be taken,” Singla assured.
