Job Aspirants from UP, MP Spark Row in J&K
Srinagar, Oct 16: A political controversy has erupted in Jammu and Kashmir after the names of two candidates from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh appeared on the list of shortlisted candidates for interviews in the Directorate of Handicraft and Handloom, Jammu. This development has sparked outrage among local leaders and workers, who argue that “outsiders” are taking jobs meant for residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Controversy
The controversy began when a government notice highlighted the shortlisting of six candidates for the post of Cluster Development Executive in the Basohli Pashmina Cluster, Kathua. Out of these six candidates, two were from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, while the remaining four were from Kathua district.
Political Reactions
Local political leaders have expressed their discontent over the inclusion of non-local candidates. Aditya Gupta, state vice-president of Youth PDP, criticized the move, stating, “Jobs in Jammu are not secure, and the BJP is trying to mislead the public with empty promises of a Dogra Chief Minister. The protection of land rights and jobs was at the heart of Article 370, which safeguarded Jammu’s future. Now, we are left fighting for our own survival.”
Former minister and ex- Mayor of Srinagar, Junaid Mattoo, also voiced his concerns, saying, “Weren’t we told that our jobs were protected? Why are applicants from UP and MP getting government jobs in J&K? The Chief Minister should immediately get this short-list rescinded in the interests of the unemployed youth of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Broader Implications
The issue of jobs being given to “outsiders” has been a hot topic during the recent Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Most political parties, including the National Conference (NC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Congress, have stated that they would ensure jobs in J&K are reserved for the residents of the erstwhile state.
Bottom-Line
As the controversy continues to unfold, the focus remains on the protection of local jobs and the broader implications for employment policies in Jammu and Kashmir. The resolution of this issue will be crucial in addressing the concerns of the local population and ensuring fair employment opportunities for all.
