Srinagar: After over 10 days of an intense heatwave, Kashmir experienced a slight dip in temperatures on Friday, providing much-needed relief to the residents. However, the scorching heatwave continued in Jammu, with the city recording 43.7 degrees Celsius.
In Kashmir, Srinagar recorded a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, marking a slight but significant downward trend.
Qazigund registered 28.6 degrees Celsius, Kupwara saw 27.4 degrees Celsius, Kokernag noted 28 degrees Celsius, and Gulmarg recorded 18.1 degrees Celsius.
The relentless heatwave has had severe impacts on daily life, prompting warnings and advisories from health and disaster management authorities.
In Srinagar, the slight drop in temperatures has brought a sense of relief. “The past 10 days have been extremely difficult. We have been struggling to cope with the high temperatures, especially with frequent power outages,” said Muhammad Aslam, a resident of Srinagar.
According to the officials of the Meteorological Department (MeT), a dip in temperature is expected.
On June 1 and 2, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy with light rain or thunder at isolated spots, accompanied by gusty winds in certain areas.
On June 3 and 4, generally dry weather is anticipated.
From June 5 to 7, the region will experience generally cloudy conditions with intermittent light to moderate rain or thunder at numerous places, with gusty winds expected in some areas.
On June 8 and 9, the skies will be partly to generally cloudy.
According to the advisory, a heatwave is expected to affect the plains of Jammu division from June 2 to June 4, with generally hot and dry weather conditions.
No heatwave conditions are predicted for the Kashmir division in the coming nine days.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during the heatwave period.
Meanwhile, those in regions expecting gusty winds and thunderstorms have been asked to secure loose objects and stay indoors during adverse weather conditions.
