Five Kerala Tourists Killed in J&K Highway Accident
At least five tourists from Kerala have died in a tragic road accident at Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The accident occurred when their vehicle, carrying eight people, skidded off the snow-covered road and plunged into a deep gorge.
Rescue operations were immediately launched by Sonamarg police, who reached the scene and retrieved the victims. Five people were confirmed dead, while three others, including the driver, Ajaz Ahmad Awan, sustained critical injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
The deceased tourists were all reportedly from Kerala, and their sudden loss has cast a shadow over their families and communities. The driver, though seriously injured, is undergoing treatment at SKIMS Soura.
The accident highlights the treacherous nature of mountain roads, especially during winter when snow and ice make driving conditions treacherous. It serves as a stark reminder to exercise caution and follow safety protocols while traveling in such areas.
Our thoughts are with the families of the victims during this difficult time. We pray for a speedy recovery for the injured.
