Former chief minister and People’s Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had become an instrument of current dispensation to target the opponents.
“ED conducts raids on individuals who raise their voice against the Bhartiya Janta Party,” Mehbooba told reporters in Pulwama while referring to the recent arrest of former minister and head of Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party, Coudhary Lal Singh.
The PDP president said that she was not advocating for Lal Singh, but using ED against the opponents had become a policy of BJP. She said that people were labeled as corrupt until they joined the BJP, but once “they join the party, everything turns out to be fine.”
Questioning the BJP’s claims of normalcy, Mehbooba said that if the claims of normalcy were true, why there was so much pressure on the people. “Every day there are NIA and ED raids. The government has created fear among the people and they are unable to speak. Even the journalists are not allowed to work freely,” she said. Mehbooba said that normalcy should be evident on the ground.
