Hasnain Masoodi, Member Parliament from south Kashmir’s Anantnag has opposed the bills regarding Jammu Kashmir scheduled to be tabled in the lower house on Wednesday.
The Central Government has introduced three bills namely The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order, 1956, will also be introduced today in the Lower House.
The first aims to reserve three seats in the assembly of Jammu Kashmir, dissolved since 2018 while the Scheduled Caste Bill aims to provide reservation to extend reservation to several Pahadi classes.
MP Hasnain Masoodi on Wednesday opposed the bills and said that the introduction of the bills was highly illegal and against all principles of the constitution.
“How can you introduce bills keeping in view the J-K Reorganization Bill 2019, when its legality has already been challenged in the apex court of India. The matter is scheduled to be heard on the 2nd August. The matter is sub-judicious,” Masoodi said.
He said that the centre has been introducing the bills illegally to Jammu Kashmir at a time when its entire decision making competence regarding the region is being challenged in the Supreme Court.
Pertinently, he tribal communities of the region, especially the Gujjar Bakarwals, have been leading a major uprising in the region since last year, opposing this anti-tribal move.
As per the Govt’s proposal, along with the ‘Pahadis,’ “Paddari”, “Koli” and “Gadda Brahman” communities are also sought to be in Scheduled Tribes list of the Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir.
