In a bid to contain the virus spread, the COVID-induced lockdown imposed in Jammu and Kashmir has been extended till 15. However, the restrictions will be eased in a phased manner starting today.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has extended the coronavirus-induced lockdown in the Union Territory till June 15 in a bid to contain the COVID spread. However, the restrictions will be lifted in a phased manner starting Sunday.
As part of the unlocking, stand-alone shops, salons and liquor shops will be allowed to operate three days a week, while government and private offices can function at 50 per cent and 33 per cent capacity in Jammu and Kashmir respectively.
Schools, colleges and technical institutions will remain closed for now but universities can resume lectures with 33 per cent attendance from June 20. Coaching centres, clubs, paid public parks, gyms, bars and swimming pools will remain closed. Public transport, taxis and cabs are allowed to function with 50 per cent capacity from June 6, and 67 per cent capacity from June 20.
The administration has permitted the outdoor shopping complexes to operate on alternate days while indoor shopping malls are allowed to open 25 per cent of shops in a rotation system. Restaurants can remain open on all days but only for home delivery.
COVID situation in J&K
With 1,448 fresh COVID-19 cases and 25 deaths recorded in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, the union territory saw a decline in the coronavirus cases, officials said. The latest figure took the tally to 2,99,050 and the death toll reached 4,051, they said.
On Saturday, Union minister Jitendra Singh had said that the central government is continuously extending all possible help to Jammu and Kashmir in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The country is going through trying times due to the second wave of coronavirus. Jammu province has also recorded a high positivity rate during this wave in which many lost their family’s bread earners, making life difficult for them,” he said.
