Chairman Tehreek e Hurriyat, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai Wednesday passed away at a Jammu hospital a day after he was admitted there, news agency PTI reported.
Sehrai, who was booked under PSA in July last year and was lodged in Udhampur jail, was on Tuesday admitted to GMC Jammu after his health deteriorated. As per reports, he was suffering from multiple ailments.
News agency PTI while quoting officials, reported this afternoon that Sehrai breathed his last at the hospital.
Meanwhile, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) led by Mirwaiaz Umar Farooq Wednesday expressed grief and sorrow at the demise of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehari.
‘Authorities left him unattended till his condition worsened yesterday’
As per family sources, Sehrai was suffering from multiple ailments and despite repeated requests by the family that his health was deteriorating in jail, he was left unattended by the authorities till his condition worsened yesterday. APHC deeply regrets this inhumane attitude of the authorities and is pained by it, a statement issued to the news agency,
APHC said despite repeated appeals to release political prisoners lodged in various jails on humanitarian grounds in view of the devastating COVID catastrophe, authorities are playing with their lives.
In the death of Sehari, people of J&K have lost a sincere able and an honest leader,” the statement said. Paying tributes to Sehari, APHC said that he was dedicated to his party and its ideology and worked tirelessly and selflessly for the people’s movement, suffering lockup’s and jails in the course of his life.
APHC said that Sehari’s contribution to the people’s movement will always be remembered and honoured by the people. APHC said that all executive members including Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat , Bilal Ghani lone, Masroor Abbas Ansari join incarcerated APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in extending their heartfelt condolences to the family of Sehari and pray that almighty Allah gives him a place in jannat, the statement said.
