Former Chief Ministers Mufti, Omar slam Malik over his ‘political’ statement
Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was breaking up and its president Mehbooba Mufti shouldn’t be taken seriously.
He alleged that Mufti had come to power by doing politics of going against forces and she was again doing the same.
“It is election time and Mehbooba might be facing some problems. Just show some sympathy towards her. The PDP is breaking up. The party is in a mess and basically, she came to power with such kind of support. That’s why she is speaking like this,” the Governor said while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Jammu University.
“You don’t need to take her seriously,” Malik added.
Replying to a question on whether Mehbooba’s statement against Major Rohit Shukla would impact the morale of security forces, he said, “The morale of security forces don’t get down by such statements given by people like Mehbooba and we will not allow it to happen. When we are with them, there is no question of their morale getting down.”
He was reacting to Mehbooba’s statement against Major Shukla, who had allegedly beaten up a youth, Tawseef, in Pulwama after which the he was hospitalised.
The Governor said: “I stand by our forces. We have given them directions and they don’t do atrocities. In some cases, where the security personnel have been found guilty, they are being shifted. However, we still stand by our forces. If there is a report of atrocity, we will investigate that.”
Mehbooba took to Twitter and wrote: “Instead of taking cognisance of the brutality that the young boy has been subjected to, and ordering action against the culprits, it is sad that the honourable Governor is talking politics instead. Saddened to see the constitutional authorities taking sides so brazenly.”
Former CM Omar Abdullah tweeted: “Governor Sb this is an unacceptable statement & an unnecessary interference in politics. At this rate it won’t be long before people stop taking Raj Bhawan seriously so please consider the office you occupy before you give statements.”
