A day after an ‘intruder’, Murfad Shah (26), was shot dead inside former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah’s residence in the Bathindi area of Jammu, his family members staged a massive protest in the Chinore area on Sunday morning.
They blocked the Janipur-Bantalab road and raised slogans against the administration. The protesters were demanding the registration of an FIR against the CRPF jawan, who opened fire at Murfad Shah on Saturday. They refused to vacate the area and perform funeral prayers for the deceased till they got any assurance from authorities.
They, however, lifted the blockade only after an assurance of a free and fair probe by Jammu additional deputy commissioner and sub-divisional magistrate. The administration sought some time and assured that the probe would be done on war footing and those found guilty would be punished.
After the protest, a funeral procession of Murfad Shah was held and he was laid to rest in the Chinore area, which was attended by hundreds of people. Many relatives of the deceased came from his ancestral village in the Mendhar area of Poonch and participated in the protest demonstration and the funeral procession.
On Saturday, the body was handed over to the family after conducting a post-mortem, the report of which is still awaited. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report on which our future course of action depends. We have some details that Murfad was shot from a very close range but everything will be clear once the report is made public,” said Syed Zeeshan, a relative of Murfad Shah.
