Jammu and Kashmir Premier League tournament for Srinagar district commenced on Wednesday.
The tournament organized by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association would be played at least on four different venues across the city, already 170 teams have registered and the JKCA is expecting more to come forward. It is 40-over format and is one of the biggest ever cricket event organized by the JKCA. “Srinagar is main district where there are many teams as it is an open tournament we were waiting for venues to get ready and also finalize the formalities. Around 170 teams have already registered for the participation and we are expecting more teams to come forward,” said JKCA official Bilal.
The event started in Srinagar today with matches played at two venues of Sher-i- Kashmir Cricket Stadium B-Ground and Islamia College ground. In next couple of days, matches would also start at SP College ground and TRC Ground. This is 40-over format event and matches are being played on turf wicket.
On the opening day of the event Kirmania Cricket Club defeated Gund Club by 125 runs. Batting first Kirmania scored 325 runs in allotted 40 overs. In reply Gund were able to score only 190 runs.
In the second match Green Valley cricket club defeated Royal Safakadal.
Meanwhile in the Anantnag leg of the tournament Showkat Memorial-XI Bijbehara defeated Kadipora Sports Anantnag at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Bijbehara on Wednesday.
