Coalition partners of People Democratic Party (PDP), the Bharatiya Janta Party has opposed unilateral ceasefire in Kashmir in view of holy month of Ramzan and the Amamrnath Yatra as it asserted that militants would get a chance of regrouping.
“Like Vajpayee era, there was a unilateral ceasefire. Similarly, a ceasefire should be announced in the month of Ramzan. It was not discussed nor we agreed on this,”BJP’s spokesperson, Sunil Sethi told media at the BJP headquarter in Jammu.
“We want government to deal with the stone-throwers with stern action. Unilateral ceasefire is not in the national interest especially at present situation when Army is having an upper hand.
“Army has managed to contain militancy and affected major causalities to the militant groups in Kashmir,”BJP’s spokesperson said.
The rejection of BJP’s ceasefire prompted opposition leader Omar Abdullah to target the Mehbooba Mufti.
In a tweet Omar said: “What was the point of @MehboobaMufti calling an all party meeting to build a consensus around initiatives in Kashmir when her ally in the Govt doesn’t agree with her! Yet she will shamelessly cling to power because that’s all that matters to her (sic).”
During the All Party Meeting, which was held at SKICC in Srinagar on Wednesday, Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had said that the participants called for a unilateral ceasefire in view of the holy month of Ramadan and Amarnath Yatra.
