- Behave like mature, sensible nations, Mirwaiz to India, Pak
- Little scope for military solution to K-issue
At a time India and Pakistan are blazing guns on borders, Hurriyat (M) chairman and chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Friday asked the two countries to “behave like mature and sensible nations.”
Asking India and Pakistan to resolve Kashmir issue peacefully, Mirwaiz said there is little scope for a military solution to the 70-year old Kashmir issue.
“Our past experience of 70 years is evident that there is little scope for a military solution to the Kashmir issue. After India and Pakistan became nuclear powers, it has become even more difficult for both thecountries to maintain the current status quo in an environment of mutual distrust and regular LoC and border skirmishes,” said Mirwaiz, while addressing congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid. The mosque remained shut for three Fridays.
The Hurriyat (M) chief termed the present rulers as “collaborators” who under the influence of their “masters” need to remember that in Islam “mosque is a place of collective worship.”
Mirwaiz said the escalation of tensions along the border can lead to war with devastating consequences “so it is in the best interest of both Indiaand Pakistan to behave like sensible nations in the interest of their own countries and its people and resolve Kashmir peacefully.”
He came down heavily on the State government stating that Kashmir problem will not end by barring prayers at mosques.
“ Unless the genuine demand of resolution of Kashmir conflict is addressed, voice will always be raised for its resolution from the pulpit of mosques,” he added.
“A mosque is a community centre for the Muslims where besides other things, the Friday sermon (JummaKhutba) is delivered that reflects the issues and problems of the community and their redressal in the
light of Quran, sunnah and ethics,” he said.
Reiterating that from the pulpit of Jamia Masjid he will continue to raise the voice of people till the resolution of Kashmir conflict, the Hurriyat (M) chairman said that for the last three decades, the grave crisis being
faced by the people of Kashmir is severe repression and abuse of all their rights “including human, religious and political.”
“Muslims of this region are forcibly prevented from gathering at the mosque to bar them from offering obligatory prayers and to stop them from expressing their opinion. They are subjected to repression for their just demand of resolution of the dispute. The killings and suppression is the height of hypocrisy of these collaborators,” Mirwaiz said.
He said that due to border skirmishes they are only losing the precious human lives on all sides.
“All these sufferings can be easily alleviated if hard posturing and status quo is given up and reality pragmatism and justice is given a chance so that a resolution of the dispute is found,” Mirwaiz said.
