Kashmir continued to be under the grip of cold wave as the minimum temperatures remained below the freezing point. Traffic on the national highway was allowed from Srinagar to Jammu only.
The Met department said the minimum temperatures throughout the Kashmir valley and the Ladakh region remained below the freezing point, with Gulmarg and Kargil witnessing the lowest minimum temperatures.
The department has forecast dry weather in the Valley till December 19, with the exception of light rain or snow at isolated places.
“At minus 10 degree Celsius, Gulmarg was the coldest place in the Valley, while Kargil was the coldest in the Ladakh region at minus 10.2,” an official from the department said.
Srinagar and Jammu cities recorded minus 0.1 and 5.7, while Pahalgam recorded minus 7.1 and Leh minus 5.7 as minimum temperatures. The sky remained clear in Srinagar throughout the day.
In many areas, people complained of unscheduled power cuts.
“In view of a landslide threat, vehicles were allowed to travel from Srinagar to Jammu on a pre-condition that they would cross Jawahar Tunnel by 2:30 pm,” an official from the Traffic Department said.
The air traffic from the Srinagar International Airport also operated normally. On Tuesday and Wednesday, around 30 flights were cancelled due to snowfall.
