As the coordination committee of the PDP-BJP coalition has virtually become defunct due to the casual approach of both the parties, the government has failed to take decisions on important policy matters.
The last meeting of the panel, which was formed to set agenda for the coalition regime, was held over one and a half years ago. After that the leaders of both the parties have failed to make the committee vibrant and effective to evolve a consensus on contentious issues.
It was announced that meeting of the coordination panel would be held on October 28 this year to discuss important issues, like holding of panchayat elections, implementing Agenda of Alliance and expediting peace process. However, the meeting was postponed at the eleventh hour.
“As the panel’s meeting was postponed without assigning any reason, many issues remain unresolved,” a senior BJP leader, who wished not to quoted, said. He admitted that the leadership of both the parties had failed to maintain sanctity of the committee.
In October this year, the PDP inducted new faces, namely Cabinet minister Abdul Rehman Veeri, Sartaj Madni, Dillawar Mir and Trilok Singh Bajwa, as party’s representatives in the panel. “Instead of elected leaders, the PDP had inducted non-elected representatives,” a source in the BJP said, adding that the party leadership was also mulling inducting fresh faces in the panel.
The panel is headed by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and other BJP members are Sat Sharma, state BJP president; Jugal Kishore Sharma and Shamsher Singh Manhas (both MPs).
Met only five times
After the formation of the PDP-BJP coalition on March 1, 2015, the parties had set up the coordination committee on March 26
It was announced that the panel will meet at least once a month. Interestingly, the panel has met only five times since March 26
When the committee was formed in 2015, its members were Mehbooba Mufti, Nirmal Singh, Jugal Kishore, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, Tariq Hamid Karra, Thusptan Chhewang, Shamsher Singh, Choudhary Lal Singh, Abdul Rehman Veeri and Naeem Akhtar
